Weekend Open Thread

I have always loved the merger of old and new in music, and have am fascinated with the ability of technology to find ever more creative ways of taking what's old and making it new again.

Below are a few videos that I would say are at the cutting edge of music and video production today. Pogo is the name of the artist and he has a particular interest in Disney Animation. Please also note, that both Disney and Pixar have given their nod of approval to these.

Not only Canada, but Australia too. I Know Austrlia has taken in lot of young educated Indians. Way to boost demand at home. It's an old story that has caught someone's attention now. It's one of the most read.

  5. This argument that not extending the Bush tax cuts on the super rich is going to cost us jobs is getting a bit stale. The super rich are more interested in shipping jobs overseas than creating jobs here!

    ReplyDelete
  6. @Thor,

It is a right wing lie that has been repeated so many times that it is now taken as Gospel, handed down from the Lord. (overlords)

There is no evidence that cutting taxes on the rich creates jobs, in fact, the opposite has proven to be true.

Tax cuts that were initiated during the Bush years for the wealthiest produced record debt and deficits and the US experienced the worst job creation in 30 years. Why don't I hear those statistics in the media echo chamber?

During the Clinton years, tax increases for the richest Americans during a time of great prosperity, created jobs as well as creating budget surpluses and decreasing national debt and not one Republican voted for these tax increases.

It is all about the wealthy not wanting to pay their fair share, (including American corporations) but no one in the media will frame it as such.

Just like the wealthy Republican supporters of George Bush wanted to wage wars but didn't feel that they should have to pay for these wars.

How unpatriotic is that? How unAmerican of them to not want to want to pay for the wars they supported, unlike in WWII, where all people sacrificed for the common good.

The plutocracy and their Republican enablers don't want it pointed out that their policies of the past 30 years have destroyed our economy, gutted our industrial base, taken our jobs and shipped them overseas, have beggared millions of the former middle and lower classes, and now want to add another trillion dollars to the debt because of their greed.

to think that the, referenced, above, episode was, solely, Authored by the (R)-side of the Duopoly is to suspend rational thought..

LSS: the (R)s, and the (D)s, tag-teamed the U.S. Economy into its current State..

    AAIP

    ReplyDelete
  8. MEH - I would agree with that, however, the D's at least make an attempt to pretend that they're looking out for the little guy. The R's are already talking about dismantling even MORE regulation.

Both are destroying the country right now, but I think the R's have done a better job at that over the last decade.

Worse, I fear that O is far and away one of the weakest Presidents we've had in the last 50 years and we are going to be paying for this weakness for many many years to come :-(

  9. None one said that the Republicans were "solely" responsible the collapse of our economy, but for the past 30 years the Right Wing conservative and neo-conservative Republican ideology and agenda has dominated our politics and as a result we are where we are today.

I don't think that anyone disputes that fact.

The plutocrats are very fickle when it comes to party affiliation; Democrats, Republicans Libertarians, and the Tea Party have proven that they are all whores.

The fact that some Democrats went along for the ride is indisputable, the fact that corruption in both parties is rampant is also indisputable.

  10. Corruption is rampant in our entire society. Where are our leaders?

  11. Trader Mark has coined a phrase,"Pooring of America".

Rich, everywhere don't want to pay taxes, if they can get away with it. There was a video posted at NYTimes web site of Pakistan - where rich people enjoy lavish lifestyles but don't pay a cent toward infrastructure maintainence. Money comes from the U.S.

Same thing in India. In my ancesteral state, farmers get free water and power subsidies. Irrigation system requires millions of rupees to maintain. Rice crop requires lot of water and power(to pump well water when canal water is unavailable).

Rich farmers are enjoying lavish lifestyles as their land values and crop prices have skyrocketed. There is talk - that rich farmers shouldn't get subsidies instead that money saved should be spent on paying back the state's debt.

But the state govt. was elected on promise of fat subsidies and both main parities are headed by ultra-rich guys who siphon funds into their own pockets and let the cronies- both political and police do the same thing.

No property taxes, either, for the city folks. Rich subsidised there too.

    Oh well, nothing new.

Probably the only politicians that cannot be "bought and paid for" are the ones that are already pretty wealthy, like myself. And yet, I lose out on my quixotic quest after spending 100 million of my own dollars. Paradoxically, the voters turned away someone who could not be "bought" and spent mostly their own money--not taking big money from special interests, like all the various unions.

    The voters are interesting people.

  13. The tragic thing, to pick up on something someone at TBP brought up. Is this whole argument that tax increases, especially on the wealthy, increase jobs. No, they don't, and we have our very recent past as a real world example. George Bush cut taxes massively on the wealthy and what exactly did it do? It not only increased the wealth disparity in the nation, but we LOST 7 million jobs as a result. Taxes went up during the late Bush I and Clinton presidency and the nation created 20+ million jobs.

No - this isn't an argument that raising taxes is going to create jobs. It does, however, prove the point that marginal increases in the tax rate do not massively effect job creation. it's ludicrous, we have 30 years of tax rate policy as proof that this is a bald faced lie.

  16. dss,

then you, obviously, should do some research on the DLC

    http://search.yippy.com/search?input-form=clusty-simple&v%3Asources=webplus&v%3Aproject=clusty&query=DLC+Clinton

the Looting has been bi-partisan in every way, shape, and form..

or, IOW, the DLC (D)s were the best 'Republicans' money (from Drugs, and Foreigners) could buy...

please, give everyone a break with this: "...for the past 30 years the Right Wing conservative and neo-conservative Republican ideology and agenda has dominated our politics and as a result we are where we are today..."-type of dreadful myopia..

  17. MEH - Why give it a rest? It's true, do you dispute that this is not true? Yes or no?

  18. Thor,

if I understand your Q:, correctly, then, No, it isn't "True"..

specifically: "...for the past 30 years the Right Wing conservative and neo-conservative Republican ideology and agenda has dominated our politics and as a result we are where we are today..."

    AAIP

    ReplyDelete
  19. MEH - Got it, but why isn't it true? What is true then?

    ReplyDelete
  20. @MEH,

Please, spare me the condescending lecture on the DLC, I have been involved in political discussions for longer than you have been alive.

Mark, do you really want to have this conversation regarding "dreadful myopia" given the type of websites and articles that you routinely link to? Really?

We have been giving you a break for a very long time considering your very interesting and colorful choices of "subject matter", yet no one tells you to "give everyone a break" or complains about your links to very questionable websites.

In the end, I am entitled to my opinions, I have given you the courtesy of being entitled to yours, I wish you would do the same.

I'm glad you're liking the new and improved "Big Picture." It has evolved to a more left-of-center political blog/website than much else. Most of the page hits and comments are generated whenever I, or Invictus, hit the political/hot button issues. Most of what else I post now is just copied material from others.

I really haven't banned or moderated many users, except for people like cvienne and yourself. Please take no offense by that gesture.

I'm happy that you're enjoying the scene better now. Expect more the same in the future!

    Thanks for the patronage.

  22. "@MEH,

Please, spare me the condescending lecture on the DLC, I have been involved in political discussions for longer than you have been alive."

Why do you find it necessary to reinforce your "experience" on people? Aren't your ideas, on their own, good enough to make a point?

Do only old people have worthwhile things to say?

  23. Yay! Look everyone! We've made it! We have our very own trolls!

  24. For Thor at 9:04PM

    Looks like we made it

You might need to go to a "subscriber" deal here where you only let in people who subscribe to your blog. That'll get rid of the trolls!

  25. @Thor,

Gotta agree with that, the time to start worrying is when the maroons stop showing up.

  26. dss,

re: "given the type of websites and articles that you routinely link to?"

and your Q: " do you really want to have this conversation regarding "dreadful myopia" ?"

    actually,
yes, and, it's half the reason I post what it is that I do..

and, b/c of this: "We have been giving you a break for a very long time considering your very interesting and colorful choices of "subject matter"", I have no idea what you're referring to..

to be clear, I, certainly, was not, and am not, looking for anyone to 'give a pass'. I post those I found to be interesting, some of which I agree with, more than others..

It's a "Marketplace of Ideas" isn't it? Through which, we may hew, closer to, the *Truth?

So, really, you want to say ~"30 years of RightWing..."

Yes, I'll point you to the DLC that spawned Clinton and the 'Neo-Libs' ...

Why doesn't anyone link to some good music? Barry Manilow, geez Louise, can't you trolls do better than that?
