It occurred to me Friday that maybe we should think about encouraging an evening (or after the market closes) post if someone wants to post a chart, or has some extra thoughts that can't wait for their posting day.
Rock wanted to show ICan a chart and he posted it after the market closed.
This extra post would be, of course, voluntary, unassigned, and might occur infrequently, unlike having an assigned evening post like we used to have.
Also, having it post only after either the market closes, or an assigned time like 6:00 pm we will not step on the toes of the poster of the day.
It could also be used for guest authors who have something to say but do not want to post on a regular basis.
What does everyone think?
I think this is a great idea! I don't have a problem with anyone putting up a more market related post (or any post really) later in the day on Thursdays.
ReplyDeleteEmmie - also, if you even want to post during the week again let us know, I'd be more than happy to trade with you if you'd like a week day for the link fest. If you prefer Saturday, then no worries, just wanted to let you know you had options :-)
I like it and vote "yes".
ReplyDeleteOn another note, Dean Baker doensn't hold back:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/dean-baker/paul-ryan-in-your-pockets_b_847843.html
From the article:
ReplyDelete"In principle the country's elite should be laying low right now. After all, their greed and ineptitude has given us the worst economic collapse since the Great Depression. But after getting the Wall Street banks back on their feet with trillions of dollars of government subsidized loans, the elite are once again making a full-frontal assault on the living standards of the middle-class. Last week it was Medicare, but they promise to be back to attack Social Security in the not-too distant future.
The ostensible rationale for this attack is the country's huge budget deficit. This is garbage. As all the pundits know, the country has a huge deficit today because the Wall Street boys drove the economy off a cliff. If the government deficit was not propping up the economy we would be looking at 11 or 12 percent unemployment, rather than 8.8 percent. Spending creates jobs and at this point it is not coming from private sector, so the government must fill the hole."
I'd also be happy to give up some Mondays for those who'd like to post something from time to time, especially once we hit summer when my weekends tend to be increasingly busier not leaving much time for being indoors and blogging!
ReplyDeleteManny,
ReplyDeleteSummer is usually a pretty slow time and I take long weekends as well, so the expectations and readership are much lower.
Whoa - am I reading this right? Fukushima just raised from 5 to 7? Same as Chernobyl?
ReplyDeleteI think Johnny will pee his pants when he'll look at the futures this morning.
ReplyDeleteNote that this is the first time he soils his pants since 2008. The Johnny Pees indicator seldom lies.
More seriously, I'm cautious about the 1312 line. We may find buyers there.
ReplyDelete@Denise:And more on topic, I like your idea of guests occasionally posting threads in the evening.
ReplyDeleteI for one could use this option sometimes, to post charts. And probably others here will be interested too.
2 words of cautions come to mind though:
ReplyDelete* obviously, we'll need to make the list of available spots. Each author will have to give his agreement with charts being posted after their regular posts.
* I guess authors value some of their pieces more than other. Therefore, even for authors who generally agree with the idea, there may be occasions where their topic for the day holds a special interest for them, and they don't want it being disrupted by an evening post. How do you handle this ?
If someone wants to post above mine, on any give day or night, I have absolutely no problem with that at all.
ReplyDeleteI see other blogs that maintain different threads, based on the top post, and it works pretty well.
I think trying to maintain a thread relating to the top post is difficult at beast. or best.
I have figured out how to have several instances of firefox. So I can figure out how to have one for each top post. I think. If not, I'll ask Thor.
Wolfie,
ReplyDeleteIf we all agree, remember that the original post of the day will still be there for anyone to still make comments.
This structure worked well when we had an regular evening post and I don't think it would be an every day thing, regardless.
